How to pair beer and Zengarry cheese

Updated: Jun 11, 2021

When most people think of cheese pairings, they think wine. What you might not know is that beer goes just as well with cheese! There’s a wide variety of beers, and each complement different types of cheese. Here we've included three examples of how to match beer with our vegan cheese, but we also included a guide at the end that shows which beers go best with each of our cashew cheese flavours.

The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re creating food and beverage pairings is balance. Like with wines, lighter beers pair best with lighter meals. Beers with more hops pair well with more fat-heavy foods, as the bitterness helps to cut through the richness.

When you're preparing a multi-course pairing menu, cheese experts recommend starting with mild, creamy cheeses. Our Double Crème brie-style fauxmage is a perfect fit. These go best with light, clean beers. Think pilsners, lagers or blonde ales.

Match the bold hops in an IPA with the spice in our Smokey Jalapeño fauxmage. If you’re sharing with a group, try it with our queso sauce and serve with tortilla chips.

For the main course, barbecued foods (like burgers or hot dogs) go perfectly with a lager. Our Ale Aged fauxmage is made with Beau’s Lug Tread, so this is a great opportunity to match them up!

To help you put together even more beer and cheese pairings, we've created a cheat sheet that matches each of our cheeses with different varieties of beer. You can download a higher quality, PDF version by clicking here.
